Enjoy an Easy College Move-In with These Tips
1. Start packing well ahead of time
If you’ve checked out some college packing lists or made one for yourself, then you already know you’ll be bringing lots and lots of belongings with you to school! For this reason, and to ensure you have everything you’ll need, we recommend you begin packing early. We’re talking at least a week or two before move-in day. The last thing you want is to spend your last night at home worried about packing.
2. Have your items delivered
Rather than playing Tetris in your trunk with your boxes and bags or dealing with long lines and crowds at the airport, just ship to school instead! Ship&Play makes it easy to send anything you need straight to campus. Luggage, boxes, golf clubs, and more – they handle all the heavy lifting so you don’t have to.
3. Figure out any special instructions
Every college handles move-in a little differently. Some have employees or volunteers there to help. Others don’t. Some allocate an entire week to move-in. Others only allow a couple of days. In most cases, you will be assigned a specific day and/or time for move-in. But we recommend contacting your school to confirm.
4. Coordinate with roommates
If your school does not have scheduled or assigned move-in times, we highly recommend contacting your roommates to coordinate move-in with them. Dorms are small, hallways are small, stairwells are small, and elevators are limited. Can you imagine how difficult it would be if everyone moved in at the same time?
5. Enjoy it
Moving in is the beginning of a wonderful college experience. For many students, it’s also their last few hours with their parents. So, soak in every second of it! A lot of schools also have several move-in week activities. Participating in these activities is a great way to meet new people, make new friends, and increase your overall comfort in your new setting.
