Special Equipment
- Sports equipment: Same fees apply for first, second, additional and/or overweight bag fees; however, specific items may have unique rules (for example: 1 pair of skis or 1 snowboard with 1 equipment bag count as 1 piece and up to a combined weight of 50 lbs per piece).
- Infant seats or strollers: Each ticketed customer is allowed 1 stroller and 1 car seat to be checked free of charge. Strollers over 20 lbs must be checked.

American Airlines requires that checked baggage not exceed 62” or 50 lbs. Costs for checked baggage will range anywhere from $40-$75 depending on your specific destination. Planning to travel with more than one bag? Be prepared to spend $75-$200 to accommodate all of your belongings and excess baggage.
American Airlines Overweight & Oversized Baggage Fees
American will not accept baggage over 126 linear inches or 100 lbs. While fees for oversized and overweight baggage vary depending on the destination, most range from $100-$200 per bag.
